“Recover, transform, and look again.”
I am a jeweler by training, but my life has always been linked to design and transformation. To observe a material, understand it, and imagine what it can become. Jewelry gave me technical knowledge; design gave me the freedom to transform that knowledge into new forms.
My way of designing stems from two very different and, at the same time, complementary experiences. On one hand, I learned to design from scratch, starting with an idea and a concept. But another fundamental part of my training took place by my mother’s side, at a time when you had to work with what you had, make the most of materials, and find new possibilities in what already existed. From her I also learned that other form of creativity: to look at what you have in front of you and imagine what else it can become.
Perhaps that is why I have always been fascinated by material in its purest state: a raw mineral, an unfaceted gem, a metal yet to be transformed. As a jeweler, I know well the path that leads that material toward precision, polishing, and brilliance; and as a designer, I am precisely interested in playing with that entire process and its contrasts.
In these pieces, luminous and refined crystal coexists with rougher, more irregular, and more spontaneous mineral forms. Some of them even come from gemstone remnants that were never used, materials that had been left behind and to which I now wanted to give a new life and a new meaning.
There is something very much mine in that gesture: to recover, transform, and look again. To make that which seemed to have finished its journey find another way to exist.
